Day 12 Bunker Restoration, The staff took it to the limit today!

Not quite the same limit the staff took it to today but a great song to listen to while you check out today's post!



The staff took it to the limit today with the near completion of #18 bunker complex.  Almost a 12 hour day so we could get a majority of the dirt areas covered on #18.  We still have some sodding to do on the left approach bunker, the right front bunker and the expanded zoysia approach and the right green side bunker that was filled in.  Sod and sand was removed from the right side bunker complex of #7.  If the rain does hamper us tomorrow, we will finish #18 and hopefully complete #6 left side and approach.  The staff will also need to do some sand removal and some sod removal on #5 for Kye to begin his shaping work.  No late pictures of Kye's working this afternoon.  We were too busy trying to get #18 finished.

Kye began his day finishing the left side shaping of the green side bunker on #7.  He began the right side bunker before noon.  I did not make it back up to #7 the rest of the afternoon due to our efforts to get 18 completed but I am sure he is well on his way to completing the right side.  I would expect him to be completed with #7 by noon or so if the weather stays away.  If we stay dry enough he should have #5 completed by the end of the day Saturday.

Of course, our schedules get pushed back if and when rain occurs.  It also slows us because the soil become wet and heavy and difficult for our staff who have to do a lot of manual work.  Kye's work is effected as well but there is usually a bunker that could be drier to work in.

The staff installing drainage of the right fron bunker of #18.  The main channel on the left is a standard herringbone drainage configuration.  Because of the slope to the left, we ran another long channel along the bottom of the slope to get water into the drainage system as quickly as possible.  The longer the water runs on the surface of the bunker, the greater potential there is for sand erosion toward the lower levels of a bunker.

Skip showing an employee how to use the loader to load a dump truck with the remnants from the bunker.  The skid steer works in the bunker and then loads about two bucket loads into the dump truck.  We use two dump trucks to haul material to the long driving range.
